MS Copilot sez: The damage to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has been substantial. According to a comprehensive Energy Damage Assessment by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank, over $10 billion in damages have been caused, affecting power, gas, and heating systems1. This has left over 12 million people with no or limited electricity and disrupted water supply and heating systems. The largest share of damage is in the power sector, close to $6.5 billion, while damage to nuclear plants reached about $770 million1. The assessment also highlights the need for urgent emergency planning for the upcoming winter season, with emergency repairs estimated to reach $1.2 billion1.

Recent attacks have caused further damage to energy infrastructure in at least four oblasts, including a high-voltage substation in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and a gas facility in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast2. The situation remains dynamic, with ongoing efforts to repair and restore services amid continued hostilities.
