US excess mortality at county level 2020-2022
the rural South scores highest cumulative excess mortality
While the CDC notes that the trend increase in BMI > 30 since 1970 has recently leveled off for everyone except women over 60, it is still disappointing that so many Americans put themselves at risk of greater morbidity “voluntarily.” The quotes are because there may be environmental factors that have affected Americans’ metabolisms without their choice. As with autism, there seems to be little interest in investigating the causes of this profound and unwelcome change. There are many confounding factors that are not addressed in this study; the focus is on the geographic distribution of all-cause excess mortality.
This major study of excess mortality was just published in “Science Advances.”
